Home Theater Speaker Projects Using Pre-built Enclosures
Three different home theater speaker combinations using five enclosure-driver configurations for the Dayton 6 1/2" shielded woofer and the 1 1/8" shielded tweeter. Costs (counting enclosure, drivers, crossover parts, terminals, and ports) range from $121 each for the 0.375 cu.ft. speaker to $175 each for the 1.0 cu.ft. MTM. $580 to $815 for a five speaker system.
0.375 cu.ft. sealed MT main/center Slightly oversized box.. F3 approximately 75 Hz, Qtc = 0.58. Modify box by additional internal MDF panels to reduce volume.
0.375 cu.ft. vented MT main/center Close to optimum size for vented alignment.. F3 approximately 50 Hz.
0.25 cu.ft. sealed surround Close to optimum box size as is. F3 approximately 90 Hz, Qtc = 0.68. Dipole/bipole. Requires mounting tweeters on ends of horizontally oriented enclosure.
0.5 cu.ft. vented MT main Box is slightly oversized and tuned toward "extended bass" alignment. F3 approximately 45 Hz.
0.75 cu.ft. sealed MTM center Box is oversize. F3 approximately 75 Hz, Qtc = 0.61. Add internal MDF blocks to sides and top/bottom to decrease volume to 0.42 for Qtc = 0.707.
0.75 cu.ft. vented MTM main Box is close to optimum. F3 approximately 50 Hz.
1.0 cu.ft. vented MTM main Box is slightly oversized and tuned toward "extended bass" alignment. F3 approximately 45 Hz.
