Home Theater Speaker Projects Using Pre-built Enclosures

 
   
Four different home theater speaker combinations using seven enclosure-driver configurations for the Dayton 5 1/4" shielded mid-woofer and the 1 1/8" shielded tweeter. Costs (counting enclosure, drivers, crossover parts, terminals, and ports) range from $108 each for the 0.25 cu.ft. speaker to $165 each for the 1.0 cu.ft. MTM. $670 to $750 for a five speaker system.

Close to optimum box size as is. F3 approximately 90 Hz, Qtc = 0.68

Close to optimum box size as is. F3 approximately 90 Hz, Qtc = 0.68. Dipole/bipole. Requires mounting tweeters on ends of horizontally oriented enclosure.
 
   
0.5 cu.ft. vented MT main
Close to optimum box size as is. F3 approximately 50 Hz.
 
   
0.75 cu.ft. sealed MTM main
Box is oversize. F3 approximately 90 Hz, Qtc = 0.61. Add internal MDF blocks to sides and top/bottom to decrease volume to 0.45 for Qtc = 0.707.
   
0.75 cu.ft. sealed MTM center
Box is oversize. F3 approximately 90 Hz, Qtc = 0.61. Add internal MDF blocks to sides and top/bottom to decrease volume to 0.45 for Qtc = 0.707.
   
0.375 cu.ft. sealed TMMT surround
Box is slightly undersize. F3 approximately 90 Hz, Qtc = 0.749. Add stuffing to bring Qtc down to 0.707.
   
1.0 cu.ft. vented MTM main
Box is near optimum size. F3 approximately 50 Hz.
